VisualMem is an independent educational project that publishes vocabulary-learning video lessons on YouTube, offers the VisualMem mobile app, and operates this website, along with an internal publishing tool ("VisualMem Publisher") that uses YouTube API Services.

This website

• visualmem.com is a static informational site. It sets no cookies and collects no personal data. It uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookie-less, privacy-first script that records aggregate page-view counts only.
• Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com); your browser's request for those font files is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• The interactive demo on the homepage plays image and audio files hosted on this site; no data about your interaction is recorded or transmitted. The blog is static text and embeds no third-party widgets.

VisualMem mobile app (iOS and Android)

The VisualMem app teaches vocabulary with images and audio. It has no accounts, no advertising and no in-app purchases during the beta. It is not directed at children under 13.

• Your learning data stays on your device. Your word lists, review history, streak and settings are stored locally on your phone. They are not uploaded to us. Deleting the app deletes this data.
• Crash and error reports (Sentry). To find and fix bugs, the app sends anonymous error and crash reports to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.), stored in the EU (Frankfurt). A report contains the error and where in the code it happened, the screen you were on and the last few in-app steps before it, the app and content version, your device model and operating system version, your chosen languages and level, and a random identifier for the installation. It also includes performance timings (for example, how long a screen took to open). We do not send your name, e-mail, the notes you type or your learning history, and we have disabled storing IP addresses. You can turn this off in the app under Settings > Privacy > "Send usage data".
• Anonymous usage analytics (PostHog). To understand how the app is used and improve it, the app sends anonymous usage events to PostHog (PostHog Inc.), stored in the EU. An event describes an in-app action, for example opening the app and how long it stayed open, starting and finishing a study session, grading a card, playing audio, opening a category or changing a setting. Events include the word's internal ID where relevant, your chosen languages, level and daily goal, the app and content version, your device model and operating system version, and a random identifier for the installation. We do not send your name, e-mail, the notes you type or search text; we do not create user profiles, link events to your identity or record your screen; location lookup from IP is disabled and IP addresses are discarded. You can turn this off in the app under Settings > Privacy > "Send usage data".
• No analytics for advertising, no ad tracking. The app contains no advertising SDKs and does not use the advertising ID.
• Problem reports you choose to send. When you use "Report a problem" on a word, the app sends the word, the problem type, the optional note you typed, the app version and a random identifier generated on your device (so we can group reports from the same install) to our server (Cloudflare Workers). Please do not put personal information in the note. We use these reports only to correct our content.
• Content delivery. Images, audio and word lists are downloaded from our content servers on Cloudflare. Like any web server, Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the files; we do not use these logs to identify you.
• Notifications. Study reminders are scheduled locally on your device; no push token is sent to us. You can disable them in the app or in your system settings.
• Your choices. Sending a problem report is always optional, and error reports and usage analytics can be turned off in Settings > Privacy. We do not sell data and we do not share it with third parties other than our service providers (Cloudflare for hosting, Sentry for error reports, PostHog for usage analytics).

Deleting your data

The app has no accounts, so there is no account to delete.

• Data on your device (word lists, review history, streak, settings): delete it yourself in the app with Settings > Reset progress (for the language you are learning), or delete everything by uninstalling the app.
• Problem reports, error reports and usage analytics sent from your device: e-mail contact@visualmem.com with the subject "Data deletion request". Tell us roughly when you used the app, your device model and, if you sent problem reports, which words they were about, so we can find them. We delete the matching reports within 30 days and confirm by e-mail.
• Automatic deletion: error reports are deleted automatically after at most 90 days, and usage analytics after at most 12 months. Problem reports are kept only until the content issue is fixed, and at most 12 months.

VisualMem Publisher (our YouTube API tool)

VisualMem Publisher is an internal automation used solely by the VisualMem channel owner. It works only on YouTube channels we own: it uploads videos we create, attaches our own subtitle files and thumbnails, adds our videos to our own playlists, updates the titles, descriptions and links of our own videos and channels, checks the publication status of our uploads, and reads basic statistics of our own videos (view, like and comment counts) for internal performance tracking.

Data we access and store

• OAuth 2.0 tokens for our own channels — granted by the channel owner, stored locally, never shared.
• Video IDs, titles and publish times of our own uploads, stored in a local database for scheduling and verification.
• Daily statistics of our own videos (view, like and comment counts), stored locally for internal performance tracking and never shared or published.
• Retention and refresh: access tokens are short-lived and refreshed on every run. The stored publication status of our uploads is re-checked against the YouTube API when a video is due to go public and again at least every 30 days; any stored status data that is not refreshed within 30 days is deleted. Statistics of our own videos are kept as long as needed for performance tracking; at least every 30 days we confirm that our authorization is still valid and that each video still exists, and we delete the statistics of any video that has been removed. We keep no other data obtained from YouTube API Services.
• We do not access, collect, store or share any data belonging to other YouTube users. The tool has no end users other than the channel owner.

YouTube API Services

• VisualMem Publisher uses YouTube API Services. By interacting with our channels' content you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's Privacy Policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
• Stored authorization can be revoked at any time via Google security settings: myaccount.google.com/permissions.

All lesson content on our channels and this website (images, audio, video and text) is created by VisualMem and provided free of charge for personal, educational use.
